“If you don’t get out there and define yourself, you’ll be quickly and inaccurately defined by others.”
- Michelle Obama
Advances in medications and technologies and health system constraints have led to increasingly complex patient health needs, leading to significant changes in both the context the profession is working within and the expectations of practitioners. In all of this disruption, it is no wonder that many pharmacists do not feel a strong connection to a professional identity. This creates challenges in how pharmacists show up in the workplace and how they feel about their profession. Despite all of this, the role of pharmacists as medication experts has never been more important than it is now.
This interactive panel session will provide an overview of professional identity is and its importance, how challenges with identity are showing up in the profession, and what we can all do to create better alignment between our professional identity and the work that we do.
